Furry Fridays on tap for WV tourism

Posted: Updated:

When planning a family vacation, some people check for the availability of high chairs or rental car seats.

But others may search for options to include those four-legged family members, and those are the travelers Wild, Wonderful West Virginia is hoping to cater to with its latest campaign: West FURginia Fridays.

Dog Treat Recipe

Mix 2 cups flour, 3/4 cup peanut butter and add water until it is a consistency of biscuit dough. Flour work space. Roll dough flat. Use desired cookie cutter to shape dog treats. Bake at 375 degrees for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. For softer dog treats bake 15 minutes.

The campaign, set to start Feb. 26, was launched with the help of the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association and a dog treat baking party in Charleston.

“We are excited to promote and encourage pet friendly travel in the Mountain State,” said Commissioner of Tourism Amy Shuler Goodwin. “Whether your pet enjoys the snow, long hikes — our dog Gus loves to barrel down trails with my boys — fine dining or naps in the sunshine, West Virginia has a wealth of both indoor and outdoor destinations for you to enjoy together.”

The campaign will feature a weekly contest to share photos of their furry friends enjoying the Mountain State’s pet-friendly adventures. Email photos to GoToWV@wv.gov and include a name, the photo location and favorite West Virginia activity. Winners will be announced each Friday and will receive a custom-made #WestFURginia collar.

Freshman safety Kenny Robinson has made some big plays over the last few weeks. None may be bigger than the play he made Saturday. Robinson’s interception and return for a touchdown brought life back into Milan Puskar Stadium and back to the West Virginia (7-4, 5-3) sideline that had not been present since a gruesome hand injury to quarterback Will Grier earlier in the game.
