MORGANTOWN -

It was a season of firsts for the West Virginia University women's soccer team, which set program record after program record all year long on its way to the national championship game in San Jose.

Head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown, just wrapping up her 21st season as the only coach in the history of the WVU women's soccer program, told the players on this year's roster that she had been "waiting for them" to come along and take her team to the heights it reached in 2016.

Among those she had waited for were senior midfielder Ashley Lawrence, junior forward Michaela Abam and junior defender Amandine Pierre-Louis. Those three players and their head coach joined us this week for a conversation to reflect on their season and to look ahead to what the future holds for a team that fully intends to return to the College Cup sooner than later.

Take a look at the three-part conversation in the video player at the top of the page as West Virginia's women's soccer team tells the story of the 2016 Mountaineers.
