WATCH: Mountaineers Discuss Four-Point Victory over Texas A&M

The No. 18-ranked West Virginia University men's basketball team escaped with an 81-77 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday at the WVU Coliseum in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The Mountaineers took a 16-point lead at the half, and the Aggies were able to get within five points with just under a minute to play behind a handful of three-pointers by JC Hampton. Esa Ahmad made a pair from the free throw line with five seconds left to preserve the win for the Mountaineers. He finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jevon Carter lead the Mountaineers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Texas A&M guard Admon Gilder lead all scorers with 24 points, and Hampton tallied another 21. WVU improves to 17-4 on the season. The Mountaineers return to Big 12 Conference action on January 31 at Iowa State.
