After spending a week near the bottom of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, the West Virginia University men’s basketball team is now back in the top-10.  The Mountaineers have climbed up 11 spots to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll, released on Monday. The jump in the ranks comes after a 2-0 week that saw wins over then No. 2-Kansas and Texas A&M in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

On Tuesday in the 85-69 win over the Jayhawks, Esa Ahmad tallied a career-high 27 points, five rebounds and two assists. Jevon Carter paved the way in the 81-77 win over the Aggies with 19 points.

Saturday, the Jayhawks earned a win over then-No. 4 Kentucky, 79-73, following its loss at WVU. After the 1-1 week, the Jayhawks fell one spot to No. 3 in the AP poll. Baylor remains the third conference team ranked this week, the Bears took over the No. 2 spot on Monday.

WVU is 17-4 on the season and 6-3 in Big 12 Conference action. The Mountaineers return to action on the road Tuesday, January 31 at Iowa State.
