Two of the top teams in the Big 12 conference head to Morgantown, West Virginia as the Mountaineers host TCU in a three game series at Monongalia County Ballpark. The series starts on April 14th, with the first pitch at 6:30 pm. Saturday’s game starts at 4 pm while Sunday’s game begins at noon.

The Mountaineers (19-12, 6-3 Big 12), who are tied for 2nd in the Big 12 hope to leave this series with another in-conference victory, helping them advance in the standings within their conference. The Mountaineers are 6-3 against top-25 opponents, however, this is their first game against a ranked opponent at home. They have also won three-straight series against other Big 12 teams.

The Horned Frogs (27-5, 8-1 Big 12) have been on fire this season as they were last year. In last year’s campaign, they won the Big 12 Championship as well as made an appearance in the College World Series. In the first four weeks of the season, they were ranked No. 1 in many polls and haven’t left the top 5 since. They just recently swept Murray State in a three-game series.

Junior right hander BJ Myers (3-2, 3.57 ERA) will be on the mound Friday for WVU facing off against right-handed sophomore Jared Janczak (6-0, 1.79 ERA). On Saturday, sophomore righty Michael Grove (3-1, 2.72 ERA) will pitch for the Mountaineers against freshman lefty Nick Lodolo (3-1, 4.93 ERA). For Sunday’s final contest against the two teams, the Horned Frogs will put senior righty Brian Howard (5-2, 4.83 ERA) on the mound while WVU has not figured out who will be throwing for them.

For the first time in Monongalia County Ballpark history, two of the three games will be aired live on national and local television. Friday’s game will air nationally on Fox College Sports Atlantic while Sunday’s game will air throughout the state of West Virginia on Nexstar Media affiliates, WVNS in Beckley, WBOY in Clarksburg, WOWK in Huntington and WTRF in Wheeling.

In the series history between the two teams, TCU holds the edge with a record of 13-2 against the Mountaineers. The Horned Frogs are 5-1 at WVU and have an undefeated record of 6-0 at Fort Worth, Texas, their home field. TCU beat WVU last year in the Big 12 Championship game 11-10, with the game going into the 10th inning.

A number of promotions and events are planned for this weekend, beginning with fireworks, presented by United Bank, following Friday night’s game. Saturday’s contest is family day, where fans can purchase four tickets and receive a $10 concession voucher for $25. Fans can also take photos with the Easter Bunny before the game and participate in a postgame Easter egg hunt on the field. The series concludes with kids day on Sunday, when kids can get autographs from the team and run the bases following the game. Mr. Twister’s balloon art and face painting will also be available on the party deck.

Freshman safety Kenny Robinson has made some big plays over the last few weeks. None may be bigger than the play he made Saturday. Robinson’s interception and return for a touchdown brought life back into Milan Puskar Stadium and back to the West Virginia (7-4, 5-3) sideline that had not been present since a gruesome hand injury to quarterback Will Grier earlier in the game.
