MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia junior guard Jevon Carter has submitted his name for consideration in the NBA Draft. He will not sign with an agent.

The University issued a brief statement from Mountaineers head basketball coach Bob Huggins Monday afternoon detailing Carter’s decision.

Jevon will go through the process in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation and leaving open his option to come back for his senior season,” Huggins said.

Underclassmen have the opportunity to submit their names while leaving the door open for a return so long as they withdraw their name by the May 24 deadline, which comes 10 days after the conclusion of next month’s NBA Combine in Chicago.

Carter led the Mountaineers in scoring with 13.5 points per game while earning National Defensive Player of the Year honors for his play in his junior season. He totaled 92 steals, with an average of 2.5 per game, to lead WVU to the Sweet Sixteen and to the title game of the Big 12 conference tournament.

The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 22.
