Lightning Suspends Series Opener Against Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

The series opener between the No. 25 West Virginia University baseball team and Oklahoma has been suspended due to lightning in the Morgantown area on Friday night.

The game will resume at 2 p.m. ET tomorrow. Game two of the series, originally set for 4 p.m. will follow game one.

Tickets for Saturday’s originally-scheduled game will be good for admission to both games on Saturday. Fans with tickets to Friday’s contest may exchange them for tickets for a future game at Monongalia County Ballpark by visiting the ticket windows at the ballpark.

The game will begin in the top of the sixth inning, with Oklahoma leading, 2-1.

All three of the game’s runs were scored in the third inning. The Sooners benefited from a leadoff hit-by-pitch, and followed it with a one-out triple and a sacrifice fly.

The Mountaineers cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning, with a run to make it 2-1. Sophomore third baseman Cole Austin singled up the middle with two outs and scored on a single by sophomore right fielder Darius Hill.

The series finale on Sunday, April 30, has been moved up 30 minutes, to 11:30 a.m., to accommodate a late change in OU’s travel schedule. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on TV throughout the state of West Virginia on Nexstar Media affiliates.
