The West Virginia University baseball team is set to host No. 4 Texas Tech in the final Big 12 home series of the season this weekend at Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown, West Virginia. Both teams are ranked in the top three in the Big 12 conference, making this an important showdown for both teams.

The first pitch of the series will come Friday, May 5, at 6:30 PM, followed by a 4 PM Saturday game, and ending the series Sunday at 1 PM.

The Mountaineers (26-17, 10-8 Big 12) are ranked third in the Big 12 and No. 27 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The team is coming off a huge win over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, defeating the eagles 17-1.

Texas Tech (37-12, 11-7 Big 12) are currently second in the Big 12, following TCU who holds the first spot. The Red Raiders are coming off a series win against TCU last weekend and have also won three games in a row.

In the series history between the two teams, the Mountaineers are 6-7 all-time against Texas Tech, but have won the last two games. Last year at the Big 12 Championship, the Mountaineers defeated Texas Tech 9-4.

The player to watch is Mountaineer senior right-handed pitcher Jackson Sigman. Sigma is coming off a dominating week on the mound, with his most impressive performance coming at Virginia Tech where in 3.2 innings, he struck out a career-best eight batters while only allowing one hit. He picked up his second career victory.

Friday’s game will feature postgame fireworks, presented by Coca-Cola. Saturday is family day, where four tickets and a $10 concession voucher can be purchased for just $25. Sunday is kids day, with postgame autographs and running the bases and Mr. Twister’s balloon art and face painting during the game on the party deck. Sunday is also Mountaineer Kids Club Day, where all MKC members will receive an exclusive giveaway item.
