West Virginia University’s Kyle Davis is the first Mountaineer to be taken off the board in this year’s MLB Draft.

The junior outfielder was picked with the No. 451 overall selection in the 15th round by the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon. On his resume for this season, Davis has a .316 batting average, 44 RBI’s and 10 home runs. He was named a Second Team All-Big 12 selection this season and helped the Mountaineers reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time 21 years.

In 2015, he was named to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team, Baseball America’s 2105 Freshman All America Team, NCBWA Freshman All-American First Team and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America First Team.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native is the 85th MLB draft pick in program history and the 15th under head coach Randy Mazey. He becomes the 5th Mountaineer to be selected by the Astros.

Davis has the option to start his professional career or return to Morgantown for his final season. Stick with WV Illustrated for the latest updates.
