WATCH: Coach Mazey, players discuss Backyard Brawl victory

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After a 3-2 win in extra innings Tuesday against Penn State, WVU head coach Randy Mazey was critical of the way his team performed offensively.

What a difference a day made.

Mazey praised West Virginia's efforts in a 12-1 win over rival Pitt, calling it the best overall performance the Mountaineers have put forth this season:

Mazey said the Mountaineers rose to the occasion of the Backyard Brawl in their season-best 12-run outing. It's a win that's particularly meaningful to West Virginia native Jimmy Galusky:

Brandon White provided some of the offensive pop with two triples. After the game, he discussed how much West Virginia values speed:

And starting pitcher Isaiah Kearns tossed a career-high eight strikeouts and picked up the win against Pitt. Kearns is one of several two-way players on the team:

Big 12 play resumes this weekend when West Virginia hosts Oklahoma State. The three-game series begins Friday.
