The BIG EAST Tournament So Far
NEW YORK, NY - In case you've been living under a rock or have been black out drunk for the past two days, the BIG EAST Tournament is in full swing. Mr. Geoff Coyle has the pleasure of being in the Big Apple to enjoy the games, check out his blog post here while I get to be the overweight gentleman who sits on his couch and watches the game on a big screen. I have made peace with this, especially because of what the games have provided so far.
The tourney started out with a bang, with St. John's taking out UConn. While I like seeing UConn and Calhoun lose, it hurts to see because it makes our loss to the Huskies look much worse. Providence was down by 27 at one point and only lost the game to Seton Hall by three, giving the Pirates a heart attack in the process. That's not bad for the first day with teams in the bottom part of the conference. Could it get better you ask? You bet your sweet bippy it did.
Yesterday most of the teams that should have won did, with the only real upset coming at the hands of the Cincinnati Bearcats. They upset Louisville to earn the right to play West Virginia. Pretty boring day right? Today more than makes up for it.
The first two games of the day are upsets...something that makes me a little antsy for the evening. Cuse got flat outplayed by Georgetown and the 2-3 zone did not look intimidating at all. Marquette and Villanova played a fantastic back and forth game that was very reminiscent of their showdown last year, but Marquette was able to stop the Wildcats' guards and beat them by four. The teams with a double bye are 0-2 on the day so far. The upset bug has officially hit the BIG EAST Tourney and the Mountaineers are staring down a team that gave them a ton of problems in the regular season.
This is the magic of the BIG EAST Tournament. What do you guys think or hope will happen tonight? I'm obviously hoping for a WVU win and a Pitt win so we can face off in the semi-finals. Let the magic begin.
Stay tuned...
