Originally from Rochester, New York, Sam was brought on to the WVi team as the station’s digital content manager. So while you may not see him on the air, you will still be able to see his work — just all on the web!
Sam started his education at McQuaid Jesuit in Rochester before moving on to West Virginia University. During his time at WVU, he gained a diverse set of experiences: in the classroom, in the studio, in the broadcast booth, and just around campus in general. He spent much of his junior year covering Mountaineer athletics as a contributor for EerSports.com, writing everything from game previews and wrap-ups, spotlights on individual Mountaineers, and NFL Draft previews in the spring.
As he gained experience, he took his love of sports to the airwaves beginning his time at 91.7 FM, WVU’s campus radio station. At U92, he did everything from production to play-by-play on several live Mountaineer games, appeared on sports talk shows, and also managed and produced a podcast with one of his fellow U92ers.
Beyond the sports world, Sam has contributed to a variety of media outlets, in a number of different capacities. He namely enjoyed his time working with 100 Days in Appalachia, where he worked as a content curator. He also took a more active role when he wrote for the Mountaineer News Service, where he and his team reported on some hard-hitting stories in the Morgantown area.
Before joining WVIllustrated, he spent some time in Wheeling working for WTRF-TV, also working as the station’s digital content manager. From arena football to presidential visits, Sam worked on a wide array of stories that affected residents of the Ohio Valley.
When he’s not on the clock, Sam is a diehard Buffalo sports fan and a shameless chicken wing addict. He loves discovering new music and new restaurants and enjoys a nice round of golf on warm mornings.
