Five Grapplers Sign With WVU

West Virginia University wrestling coach Tim Flynn has announced the addition of five student-athletes for the 2020-21 season.

Jack Blumer (Leechburg, Pa.), Colton Drousias (Cedar Lake, Ind.), Caleb Dowling (Port Royal, Pa.), Peyton Hall (Chester, W.Va.) and Brayden Roberts (Parkersburg, W.Va.) have signed their National Letter of Intents and will join the Mountaineers next season. 

“We’re ecstatic about the class that we have coming in,” Flynn said. “They are quality student-athletes. They are the kind of kids that we want here at West Virginia and the kind of student-athletes that will make this university proud. These are the type of kids that you want to build a program around and We’re really happy that they chose to come here.”

Jack Blumer, 174, Leechburg, Pa.

Ranks sixth in the Intermat High School rankings and 14th in the Open Mat’s Adidas High School Individual Rankings at 160 pounds (as of Nov. 6) … enters his senior season at Kiski Area High with a 111-25 record … ranks No. 29 amongst seniors by PA Power Wrestling … went 46-4, with 34 pins, his junior season … he also placed third in the state of Pennsylvania at 160, after going 5-1 at the 2019 PIAA AAA State Championships … captured the PIAA District 7 AAA Section 1 and South West AAA Regional titles in 2019 … went 39-9 and earned his first South West AAA Regional Championship in 2017-18 … tallied a record of 26-12 in his freshman campaign, placing third at sectionals … his brother, Joey, wrestles at Penn State.

Colton Drousias, 125, Cedar Lake, Ind.

Currently ranks No. 18 at 120 pounds in the Intermat High School rankings … finished the 2018-2019 season ranked No. 11 by Intermat at 120 … tallied a 35-4 record, including a 20-match winning streak en route to an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) 3A State Championship title at 113 pounds his junior season … 2018 ISWA GR State Cadet 113 champion … 2018 ISWA FS State Cadet 113 champion … 2018 USAW FK Nationals Cadet 106 champion.

Caleb Dowling, 157, Port Royal, Pa.

Ranks No. 20 in the 2020 class by PA Power Wrestling … three-time medalist at the PIAA AA State Championships … has amassed a record of 119-16 in his first three years at St. Joseph’s Academy … became the second wrestler in program history to earn 100 wins at St. Joseph’s … went 43-6 in the 2018-19 campaign … captured the District 6 AA and South West AA Regional titles before placing third at the 2019 PIAA AA State Championships … finished his sophomore season with a 37-2 record and captured his first district and sectional titles … finished second at the 2018 PIAA AA State Championships … went 39-8 and finished fourth in the state championship his freshman season at St. Joseph’s.

Peyton Hall, 165, Chester, W.Va.

Ranks sixth in the Intermat High School and the Adidas High School Individual (The Open Mat) rankings at 152 pounds (as of Nov. 6) … finished his junior season at No. 11 in the 138-pound division by Intermat … three-time WVSSAC State Champion … finished his senior season with a 43-3 record and 31 pins on his way to a state championship at 138 pounds … earned his second state title in 2018 in the 132-pound division … won his first state championship as a freshman, before taking the National High School Coaches Association Freshman 120-pound national title in 2017.

Brayden Roberts, 149, Parkersburg, W.Va.

Sits just behind fellow 2020 signee, Peyton Hall, at No. 7 in The Open Mat’s Adidas High School Individual (The Open Mat) rankings at 152 pounds (as of Nov. 6) … has earned back-to-back 2018 WVSSAC AAA titles at 126 in 2018 and at 145 pounds in 2019 … became the second wrestler from West Virginia to earn a Greco National Championship at the USMC Cadet and Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota… finished third at the Greco Roman World team trials at 71kg (156) in Akron, Ohio.
