Mayi Kith Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Senior center back Easther Mayi Kith of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Mayi Kith’s honor is her third career award and the first of the 2018 season for the Mountaineers.

Mayi Kith, a 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Team honoree, was instrumental in helping the Mountaineers (1-2-3) earn their first victory of the season, as she anchored a WVU defense which held Xavier to just two shots, none on-goal, in a 3-0 win on Aug. 30 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Musketeers also earned just one corner kick, and their team totals were opponent season lows. The clean sheet was WVU’s second of the year.

Kansas forward Katie McClure was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Texas forward Mackenzie McFarland claimed the Big 12 Freshman of the Week award.

The Mountaineers return to the road and travel to Clemson, South Carolina, for a match against the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m., at Riggs Field.
