As the start of the regular season approaches, WVU women’s soccer is nationally ranked again.
The Mountaineers are No. 18 in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I preseason poll, joining two other Big 12 teams in the ranking.
At No. 13, Texas is the highest ranked among those Big 12 teams in the poll, while Baylor, the reigning regular season champ in the conference, is No. 25.
Florida State is the No. 1 team in the preseason ranking.
This preseason poll quantifies just how difficult West Virginia’s non-conference schedule will be this season, as the Mountaineers will play four of the nation’s top eight teams over the next month.
It begins with Stanford, West Virginia’s second regular season opponent, which checks in at No. 4. Then, the Mountaineers will play No. 5 Virginia, No 6 Penn State and No. 8 Georgetown during the first two weeks of September.
The Mountaineers open their schedule Friday at 7 p.m. against Duquesne, and then take on Stanford Sunday at noon at Penn State.
