West Virginia’s Mountaineer mascot is aiming to make a run in this year’s bracket — and it’s up to Mountaineer Nation to give him the push he needs.
Without a March Madness bracket to be busted this year, fans and outlets across America are taking it upon themselves to make their own — and they go beyond college hoops. Sirius XM College is holding a mascot bracket on their Twitter account, pitting college mascots in a public vote to see which is the best in the nation, and the West Virginia Mountaineer is quite the underdog as a 15-seed with a first round matchup against the No. 2 Oregon Duck in the West region.
The Mountaineer is tied for the lowest-seeded Big 12 team in the bracket — Kansas’s Big Jay holds the 2-seed in the Midwest with an opening round matchup against No. 15 Willie the Wildcat from Kansas State. They are also joined by Texas’s Hook ’em, Baylor’s Bear and Raider Red of Texas Tech (the latter two of which are facing one another in the 8/9 matchup).
Mike the Tiger of LSU, Brutus the Buckeye, Joe and Josephine Bruin of UCLA and Duke’s Blue Devil are the No. 1 seeds of the tournament.
Voting in the first round matchup between the Mountaineer and the Duck wraps up at 12 p.m. ET on Twitter.
