Countdown to Kickoff: 96 Days

We're looking back at the best of WVU history as a new season nears

Today marks 96 days until West Virginia’s opener against James Madison.  Pat Randolph, a high octane running back from Folsom, PA is our selection for the countdown.  During his four-year career, Randolph accumulated 1205 yards rushing for WVU on 294 attempts. However, the easiest 96-yards may have come again Northern Illinois in 1986.

The countdown to the 2019 WVU football season has begun, and in the days leading up to the Aug. 31 opener against James Madison, we’re going back in time to revisit some of the greatest players, moments and memoires from Mountaineer history.

The early September game was the home opener for WVU and the crowd was excited to see the season start.  Late into the third quarter, Randolph galloped 96-yard for WVU.  The Mountaineers would win the game (47-17) in front of 56,665 at Mountaineer Field.

During an interview with the late, Micki Furfari, Randolph mentioned he played for Coach Don Nehlen.  He added, It was great. I loved it Randolph said, “He know his football He’s certainly a great gentleman.”
