The Bob Huggins Show Preview
This week on the Bob Huggins show, Tony Caridi sits down with Head Coach Bob Huggins and talks about West Virginia’s off week and the upcoming games against Kansas and Kansas State.
On Monday afternoon, it was announced that senior Esa Ahmad and junior Wesley Harris were dismissed from the program. Coach Huggins explained how tough it was to dismiss Ahmad and Harris.
“They were both almost done with their careers, and this happens. It really is unfortunate. However, this week the guys responded with two really good, enthusiastic practices. That is what is most important, and they are ready to work,” Huggins said.
WVU travels to Lawrence, Kansas on Friday to battle with 14th ranked Kansas. Coach Huggins talked about what he thinks the Mountaineers need to do to defeat the Jayhawks.
“Kansas hasn’t changed. They still have an outstanding group of guys even without (Lagerald) Vick and (Marcus) Garrett. We have to control the tempo. You cannot give them layups in transition. They are a very good transition team, you have to make them beat you from the perimeter,” said Huggins.
Following the Kansas game, the Mountaineers will return to Morgantown to host the Big 12 leading Kansas State Wildcats. The last time West Virginia played the Wildcats, they blew a 21-point second-half lead. Coach Huggins explained how it will help to prepare for KSU since they’ve played them once already this year.
“We’ve played Kansas State once which helps in prepping because we have familiarity with them. They score a lot of points off their defense. That’s what is tough with them, they are a really good defensive team that takes advantage of turnovers,” said Huggins.
The Bob Huggins Show will also include:
- “Life as a Mountaineer: Derek Culver”
- Erik Martin stops by to talk about the work he has done with Derek Culver in such a short time
- Athletic Director Shane Lyons talks with Nick Farrell about the midway point of the season for both men’s and women’s basketball teams. He also talks about spring sports getting underway, the final push for gymnastics and the rifle national championship
- Dale Wolfley recognizes Keli Zinn being named to Sports Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 class of 2019.
