Two West Virginia University student-athletes are being recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their success in the classroom.
Junior rifle shooter David Koenders was named to the men’s first team and senior gymnast Abby Kaufman was named to the women’s third team, while both student-athletes received honors for the second straight year.
Koenders, a native of Mossautal, Germany, was one of 49 students named to the WVU Foundation’s Outstanding Seniors list after graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Kaufman, a York, Pennsylvania native, finished with a 3.97 GPA and was honored with the 2020 Order of Augusta award, the most prestigious honor for WVU students. She is the first gymnast in WVU history to receive the award.
Kaufman finished her career in the gym with 22 podium finishes and three event wins after surpassing the 1,000-career point mark her junior year. Koenders helped WVU qualify for its 13th straight NCAA Championship, finishing his Mountaineer career as a nine-time All-American with seven all-conference first team honors.
