Following the team’s upset of then-No. 10 Mississippi State, the West Virginia University women’s basketball team checked in at No. 22 in the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll, announced Monday.
The Mountaineers (6-1) received 106 points in this week’s poll to rank No. 22. West Virginia is just 14 points behind No. 21 Arkansas and 10 points ahead of No. 23 Tennessee.
WVU is one of two Big 12 teams to appear in the latest rankings. Baylor (8-1) checked in at No. 6 this week, receiving 598 points. Non-conference opponent Michigan State (6-2) received 150 points and came in at No. 19 this week.
Following last week’s upset win, Mississippi State (8-2) dropped five spots to No. 15 and received 349 points in this week’s poll.
The Mountaineers next compete on Sunday, Dec. 15, as the team travels to Charleston, West Virginia, to face off with Norfolk State at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center. Opening tip against the Spartans is set for 4 p.m. ET.
