West Virginia women’s soccer is once again tabbed to be one of the top squads in the nation after the 11th-ranked Mountaineers were voted to the top of the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
After losing for the first time in the Big 12 Tournament in 2017, the Mountaineers bounced back last season to earn back the crown over top-seed Baylor. They would go on to fall in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Wake Forest.
Not far behind the Mountaineers in the poll is Baylor, who captured last season’s Big 12 regular season crown.
Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown returns some of her key starters from last season, including Rylee Foster and Lauren Segalla, but much of their squad will be raw heading into what Izzo-Brown has called a “rebuilding year.” They begin their season at home on Aug. 23 against Duquesne before heading to University Park, Pennsylvania to take on No. 2 Stanford on Aug. 25.
