Ladies Huddle gives glimpse into the life of the Mountaineers

Daily WVi Reports

Milan Puskar Stadium was rocking on Sunday afternoon for the 2019 Ladies Huddle as over 200 came out to get a little glimpse into the life of a Mountaineer football player.

After some cocktails and shopping, it was time for lunch and a Q&A with head coach Neal Brown and his wife Brooke.

Coach Brown provided a look a the new training table where the players eat their meals, talked about the excitement for the upcoming season, and s also fielded some tough questions from those in attendance.

“During panels, sometimes you get family questions, but nope, the first one was ‘who is your quarterback?’ They cut right to it,” laughed Coach Brown.

A weight room demonstration with strength and conditioning coach Mike Joseph and his staff followed, and then it was time to get to work.

The fog machine was on, the music was cranked up, and the players formed a tunnel as the Mountaineer Mascot, Timmy Eads, led the participants on to the field.

Assistant coaches along with select players led the on-field portion of the event as the ladies put their skills to the test.

Along with an inside look at the drills certain positions go through during practice, the attendees also got a better understanding of who they are rooting for every Saturday in the fall.

“The thing about football, you never see their face. These guys always are wearing helmets so they don’t get to know them as much, so it’s really good for that as well,” Coach Brown added.

West Virginia Illustrated put a mic on linebacker Zach Sandwisch and offensive lineman Chase Behrndt during the drills on Mountaineer field.

For Sandwisch, that portion of the event brought the opportunity to show his mother the ropes:

“A lot of these mothers are from the state of West Virginia and they are very proud of how their sons represent the state.  I appreciate them a great deal,” Coach Brown said of the Mountaineer mothers in attendance, noting that wives of the coaching staff were also participating.
