Two Mountaineers are getting recognized with Big 12 honors ahead of the 2020 baseball season, the conference announced.
Juniors Tyler Doanes and Paul McIntosh have been named to the preseason All-Big 12 squad, two of 18 players from the conference to be recognized.
Doanes was selected as an infielder, and is no stranger to receiving honors from the conference. As a freshman in 2018, the Fayetteville, Georgia native was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team. He followed that up as a sophomore by leading the Mountaineers in batting average (.316) while adding five home runs, 32 RBI, 21 doubles, three triples and 40 runs. His performance in the batter’s box along with 20 stolen bases propelled him to an All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2019.
Hailing from Miami Gardens, Florida, McIntosh got the nod as a designated hitter after earning All-Big 12 second team honors in his debut 2019 season. As a sophomore, he hit a team-leading 10 home runs with 34 RBI and a .277 batting average. He notched a total of 53 hits, including 10 doubles, a triple and 28 runs scored.
West Virginia begins their season on Feb. 14 when they face Jacksonville in a three-game series on the road. They will open Monongalia County Ballpark up on Feb. 18 against Canisius.
