During his summer media briefing Wednesday, WVU athletic director Shane Lyons discussed a number of topics, ranging from a new economic impact study to an update on the Climbing Higher campaign.
He also confirmed previous reports that an extension for baseball coach Randy Mazey is in the works, though he said there’s no timetable for when the two sides will agree to terms.
“We’re working through that process right now,” said Lyons. “I don’t think there’s a general timeline that we have, but Randy has done a great job for our baseball program, and he has been a great coach. We want him here at West Virginia to continue building what he has built on from several years ago.”
Mazey is the reigning Big 12 baseball coach of the year. Under his guidance in 2019, the Mountaineers finished the year 38-22 and hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time since 1955.
The Mountaineers also produced eight MLB Draft picks this season, the largest draft class in program history.
Mazey has been WVU baseball’s head coach since 2013.
