For the second year in a row, Jevon Carter has been named the best defender in the Big 12.
In his final season with the Mountaineers, Carter becomes the first Big 12 player to make the all-defensive team four years in a row, while once again winning the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award.
Carter was also a unanimous choice for first-team All-Big 12 honors.
The other major conference players who earned All-Defensive Team honors four years in a row were Purdue’s Chris Kramer (2007-10) and Ohio State’s Aaron Craft (2011-14). The only other Big 12 players to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors twice were Oklahoma State’s Marcus Dove (2007 and 2008), Kansas’ Cole Aldrich (2009 and 2010) and Kansas’ Jeff Withey (2012 and 2013).
In just his second season as a Mountaineer, Sagaba Konate earned All-Big 12 Third Team honors and was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
The Mountaineers will begin play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET against Baylor at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
