SALT LAKE CITY - The summer is off to a fine start for WVU men’s basketball alumnus Jevon Carter.
The former first-team all-Big 12 guard started for the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night and scored 10 points in his Utah Summer League debut. Carter also scooped up five rebounds and dished out three assists in a 103-88 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
Staying true to the playing style that allowed him to claim back-to-back Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year awards, Carter also locked down Hawks rookie and former Oklahoma guard Trae Young in a familiar matchup.
Young shot 4-20 from the floor, including 1-11 from behind the arc. Seven of Young’s 16 points came at the free throw line.
Former Mountaineers and current Sacramento teammates Daxter Miles Jr. and Devin Williams each made their first summertime appearances Monday night, as the Kings defeated the Lakers 98-93. Miles came off the bench to score eight points for the Kings.
The Grizzlies play the Jazz Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET in Salt Lake City, while the Kings return to the floor against Golden State at 11 p.m. ET.
