Matchup Review

West Virginia fell to Kansas State in their first matchup in Manhattan. The Mountaineers struggled to stop Cartier Diarra, who logged 25 points for the Wildcats, including 66.7 percent shooting from deep.

The Mountaineers went down early, taking a 17-point deficit at halftime. That gap would get as high as 24 before the Mountaineers began to come back, eventually outscoring the Wildcats in the second half — but it wasn’t enough for them as K-State would get the victory at the end by 16.

West Virginia’s frontcourt wasn’t quite as dominant as usual, earning just a single-board edge in the rebounding margin. Their offense stalled as well, with Miles McBride and Chase Harler leading the squad with just 11 points each.

Who’s favored?

West Virginia is 92.8-percent favorites to win this matchup according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index. Vegas also heavily favors the Mountaineers — WVU is anywhere from a 12.5 to a 14-point favorite.

So far this year, West Virginia is 12-8 against the spread, beating it in their last five contests. Kansas State is 8-12 against the spread this year.
