The West Virginia University women’s basketball team travels to Norman, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, as the Mountaineers prepare to take on Oklahoma.
Opening tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, at the Lloyd Noble Center, in Norman. Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will call the game for the Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. The game can be found on Jack-FM 100.9, as well as affiliates across the state, the TuneIn Radio App and WVUSports.com. Saturday’s contest will be broadcast on FOX Sports Oklahoma and the FOX Sports GO App, with Toby Rowland and Brenda VanLengen on the call.
The Mountaineers (14-5, 4-4 Big 12) and the Sooners (11-10, 4-5 Big 12) meet for the 20th time in the series and the second time this season on Wednesday. Oklahoma won the first meeting, a 73-49 victory in Morgantown. OU holds the all-time advantage in the series, 10-9. The Mountaineers are 3-5 when playing the Sooners in Norman. West Virginia last defeated Oklahoma inside the Lloyd Noble Center on Jan. 13, 2019, by a score of 66-55.
West Virginia is coming off a bounce-back victory on Feb. 2, after the Mountaineers defeated Iowa State, 79-71, at the WVU Coliseum, in Morgantown. WVU’s scoring was led by redshirt junior guard Kysre Gondrezick, with 21 points. Gondrezick’s performance marked her ninth 20-point game of the season and the 10th of her career. Redshirt senior guard Tynice Martin (18 points) and freshman forward Esmery Martinez (12 points) also finished in double-figure scoring. Junior center Blessing Ejiofor led the Mountaineers with 10 rebounds.
Oklahoma is coming off a 94-82 overtime victory at Kansas on Feb. 2. OU trailed the Jayhawks 49-27 at the half, but outscored KU, 67-33, over the final three periods to complete the comeback. Taylor Robertson tallied 31 points in the win, marking her third 30-point game of the season. For her performance, Robertson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 3. Prior to Oklahoma’s win at KU, the Sooners had lost their last four games. OU’s last win came against West Virginia on Jan. 15.
