First Workout Warriors of July announced; McKivitz receives third honor

It’s crunch time in the West Virginia weight room with less than two months to go until the season opener. As the offseason winds down, the Mountaineer football program will be giving out the last few rounds of summer honors.

Colton McKivitz, a redshirt senior offensive lineman, has made himself a regular on these lists — for the third time this offseason, the Jacobsburg, Ohio native has earned himself a Workout Warrior weekly honor.

McKivitz is a Mountaineer mainstay, having started every game of his career since he started at West Virginia.

Senior linebacker Shea Campbell of Morgantown would also get a Workout Warrior nod this week. Campbell had somewhat of a breakout junior campaign in 2018, where he started 8 games and earned the team’s “defensive champion” honor for his performance against Baylor.

Staying on the defensive side of the ball, the third Workout Warrior honor of the week would be awarded to Keith Washington. The senior safety out of Alabama was one of the top defensive backs in the Big 12 before earning an All-Big 12 honorable mention for his first campaign in Morgantown. Before West Virginia, Washington competed at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi.

This week’s Academic Student of the Week award was given to redshirt quarterback Trent Jackson from Stevensville, Maryland. Having redshirted last season, 2019 will be the first season on the West Virginia roster for Jackson.
