Gibson joins coaching staff at N.C. State

Named co-defensive coordinator, safeties coach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Former WVU defensive coordinator Tony Gibson has found his landing spot.

The 23-year coaching veteran has been named the safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator at N.C. State.

The Wolfpack announced its latest hire in a tweet Sunday:

Gibson had been WVU’s defensive coordinator since 2014. He also served as an assistant under Rich Rodriguez from 2001-07 and under Dana Holgorsen in 2013. His second stint as a Mountaineer coach reached its end last week when new head coach Neal Brown introduced Vic Koenning as WVU's next defensive coordinator.

West Virginia will host N.C. State Sept. 14 in its final non-conference game of the upcoming season. The two teams were scheduled to play last season, but the game was canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
