Stewart "having a lot of fun" in new role

Safety JoVanni Stewart no longer appears on the WVU football roster.

Head coach Neal Brown confirmed that fact Tuesday during his weekly press conference, saying that Stewart made his own decision to no longer “actively participate” with the team.

“He has made the decision to no longer be an active participant, and as a result, he is no longer a member of the team this fall,” Brown said.

Stewart missed the Texas game due to personal reasons.

All signs indicated that Stewart plans to utilize college football’s revised redshirt rule, meaning he’ll sit out the rest of this season, maintain his final year of eligibility and transfer after the season.

“I think with any rule, there’s going to be unintended consequences, that’s probably as much as I want to go into it,” Brown said.
