Former Oklahoma quarterback Austin Kendall officially enrolled at West Virginia University on Thursday, making him eligible to participate in spring practice with the Mountaineers.

Kendall confirmed the news via Twitter on Friday morning.

A few of West Virginia’s coaches also took to social media to share their excitment. Head coach Neal Brown simply tweeted “Let’s Go!” and defensive assistant Al Pogue send Kendall could drop dimes.

It’s been a whirlwind few days for Kendall leading to this outcome. On Wednesday, OU initially blocked him from becoming immediately eligible at WVU even though he already received his undergraduate degree. He was able to transfer, but would have to sit out the upcoming season due to transfer rules, leaving only one year of eligibility remaining in 2020.

On Thursday, Oklahoma went back on its decision, allowing Kendall to be come eligible immediately. He will able to play two years for the Mountaineers.

Kendall entered the transfer portal last week after learning the Sooners were pursing Alabama grad transfer Jalen Hurts. Hurts committed to OU a few days later via a letter published on The Players’ Tribune.

The former Sooners quarterback backed up Heisman Trophy winners Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield during his time in Norman. Kendall redshirted in 2017 and earned a share of offensive scout team player of the year.

Kendall saw action in two games behind Mayfield in 2016. He had 16 completions for 143 yards and two touchdowns, the most in a season by a true freshman under head coach Bob Stoops.

Behind Murray in 2018, he passed for 122 yards and one score through six games.  He made his first career start on Sept. 29 vs. Baylor and played one series.

Kendall looks to replace WVU’s two-year starter Will Grier.

In Grier’s absence, redshirt junior quarterback Jack Allison made his first career start vs. Syracuse in the Camping World Bowl. Redshirt freshman Trey Lowe was Allison’s back up in that contest.
