After eight weeks of play, the Patriots and 49ers remain undefeated. New England continued its march to perfection with a 27-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns late Sunday afternoon. The 49ers remain unbeaten thanks to a dominating 51-13 win against the Carolina Panthers.

The Eagles and Chargers ended their losing streaks with impressive road victories. Philadelphia trounced the Bills, 31-13 in Buffalo to hand the Bills their second loss of the season. Los Angeles provided Chicago with its third straight loss after kicker, Eddy Pineiro, missed the 41-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.

Drew Brees returned for New Orleans after backup quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, started the previous five games for the Saints. Brees didn’t skip a beat as he went 34-of-43 for 373 with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. The Saints are on a six-game winning streak and are 7-1 on the year.

The Texans and Seahawks both bounced back from week seven losses with victories on Sunday. Seattle scored 24 points in the first half and held on against Atlanta to win 27-20. Houston scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to escape against the Oakland Raiders, 27-24.

Now, here are the former Mountaineers that had the biggest impacts for their teams on NFL Sunday:

Defensive Player of the Week

BRUCE IRVIN: Irvin had his best game of 2019 as he finished the game with 5 total tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and 2 QB hits as his Panthers fell to the 49ers.

Offensive Player of the Week

WENDELL SMALLWOOD: Smallwood performed well in Washington’s loss on Thursday. He rushed twice for 9 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards.

Surprise Player of the Week

KARL JOSEPH: After a disappointing performance a week ago against Green Bay, Joseph bounced back with a solid performance on Sunday. Joseph finished second on the team for tackles with 7 total in the Raiders loss.
