Mountaineers rank No. 20 in final AP poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia finished the 2018 football season with the No. 20 ranking in the country.

Despite ending the year on a three-game losing streak, the Mountaineers still completed the season with a national ranking. They went 8-4 in 2018, finishing with a 34-18 loss to Syracuse in the Camping World Bowl.

Clemson was the clear No. 1 in the final poll after it blew out Alabama in the College Football Playoff title game. Ohio State moved to No. 3 in the final poll, despite being left out of the playoff field.

At No. 4, Oklahoma remained the highest-rated team in the Big 12 ahead of Sugar Bowl champ Texas, which wound up at No. 9.

Ten-win Syracuse finished the season at No. 15.

West Virginia will formally introduce new head football coach Neal Brown Thursday during a press conference at 11 a.m. The program announced Brown's hiring Saturday. Check our website Thursday for complete coverage of the press conference.
