Taz Sherman shined in his first WVU Coliseum appearance as the Grey squad as they topped the Blue squad 67-54 in WVU hoops’s Gold-Blue Debut.
Sherman’s 18 points led the way for all scorers. He wasn’t the only newcomer to make his name known, though — right behind him was freshman Oscar Tshiebwe with 15 points for Blues, while Miles McBride chipped in 12 for Grey.
Tshiebwe got his highlight reel started early with a steal and a fast break dunk.
The freshman also dominated the boards, putting up a scrimmage-high 11 rebounds. He was trailed by transfer sophomore Gabe Osobuohien on Grey, who grabbed 8 boards.
McBride showed off his versatility in the scrimmage, contributing 4 rebounds and 3 assists on top of his scoring.
“He can play anywhere…He’s probably our most versatile guy,” said head coach Bob Huggins.
Veterans made an impact, as well. Sophomore Derek Culver scored 15 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, while Emmitt Matthews added 8 points and 5 boards.
The Mountaineers will return to the Coliseum on Nov. 1, when they face Duquesne in a charity exhibition before officially tipping their season off Nov. 8 against Akron.
