Although Skyler Howard isn’t in the United States, he’s still under center — and he’s playing at a high level.
After he wrapped up his time in Morgantown, the former Mountaineer quarterback headed to the Land of the Rising Sun to join the Obic Seagulls. So far, it’s safe to say this chapter of his career has worked out.
In 2018, Howard took the Seagulls’ helm in his first year to their second Pearl Bowl championship in a row, earning the game’s MVP award for his efforts.
This past season, he helped the Seagulls follow up. In the Seagulls’ third consecutive Pearl Bowl, Howard threw a trio of touchdowns to lift his team to their third Pearl Bowl championship in a row. Obic is the third team in Japan’s X-League to achieve that status since the league’s formation in 1971.
After the win, Howard made sure to show one particular flag off to his fans:
Howard spent two seasons in Morgantown leading West Virginia to an 18-8 record, including a win in the Cactus Bowl and the Mountaineers’ only 10-win season since joining the Big 12.
